Fracture and deformation of ProTaper Next instruments after clinical use

Background The aim of this study was to evaluate the fracture and defects observed in ProTaper Next files discarded after a normal clinical use. Material and Methods 571 ProTaper Next rotary instruments were collected after clinical use from the clinic of endodontics over 12 months. The length of the files was measured using a digital caliper to determine any fracture, later all the files were evaluated under a stereomicroscope to observe defects such as unwinding, curving or fracture. The employment of single-use, disposable medical equipment has increased the amount of medical waste produced and the advent of point-of-care diagnostics in lab-on-chip format is likely to add further volume. Current materials used for the manufacture of these devices are derived from petroleum sources and are, therefore, unsustainable. Evaluation of the novel, single-use, flexible aScope® for tracheal intubation in the simulated difficult airway and first clinical experiences

Flexible fibreoptic intubation is widely accepted as an important modality for the management of patients with difficult airways. We compared the aScope, a novel, single-use, flexible video-endoscope designed to aid tracheal intubation, with a standard flexible intubating fibrescope, by examining the performance of 21 anaesthetists during an easy and difficult intubation simulation in a manikin. Intubation success, time for intubation, and rating of the devices (using a scale from 1, excellent to 6, fail) were documented. International audience; A 15 km à l'Est de Niamey (Sud-Ouest du Niger), une prospection pédestre exhaustive a permis de dénombrer plus de 4000 bas-fourneaux sur un bassin versant de 24 km². Ils sont identifiables par la présence de scories correspondant aux résidus de réduction du fer. Ce grand nombre de structures de réduction est lié au fonctionnement à usage unique des bas-fourneaux, qui est peu étudié dans la région ouest africaine. Les premières études de répartition spatiale montrent que l'implantation de ces bas-fourneaux est principalement soumise à la géomorphologie. Abstract The resitivity change of ultra thin metals under air exposure is used for vacuum or inert gas packaging control. In order to reach low cost, single use applications, few nm thin Aluminum layers were deposited on PET substrates and combined with wireless electronic readout circuitry. The sensor respose is characterized by resistance changes and explained in terms of multiphase diffusion mechanisms which are very sensitive to technological parameters.
